As first time cruisers we were a bit apprehensive about the whole structure of the trip. We needn’t have been. The tours and tour guides provided a wide range of options. Lots to do and plenty of time to relax as well. I would have liked an additional cycling option at a moderate level. Think “stop and smell the roses” rather than spandex road warrior. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the accommodations and the food on the ship. It was nice to have someone else take care of the day-to-day planning with our only decisions being what to eat for breakfast and which tour to join. Surprisingly (to me) we are already thinking about our “next” River cruise.

Antarctica with Hurtigruten

Over 2 years ago, we decided from our research that we wanted to visit Antarctica and the cruise line of choice would be Hurtigruten based on our research and reviews.

We have gone on many cruises in the past and mostly booked them directly, but this was our first expedition cruise and we felt that we would need the guidance of a travel consultant that was experienced with both Antarctica and Hurtigruten. Our search connected us with Nicola Radde. Nicola reinforced our decision to go with Hurtigruten by sharing that they were expert in this kind of expedition.

We chatted extensively with Nicola and booked our cruise to Antarctica for December of 2022.

Nicola exhibited great patience with our many questions and both calls and emails for a trip still 2 years out, and just as Covid was beginning. None of us knew that was going to happen with travel because of Covid, but Nicola helped us through all our questions and concerns.

Move the timeline to a few months before the cruise, Nicola was extremely organized and efficient with making sure we were paid in full on time and led us through the many requirements including medical certification, covid concerns, and all the final arrangements to get us to Antarctica.

Nicola provides a smartphone / computer App that was very helpful in keeping track of our dates, flights, and hotels. This was a great help in our planning. Nicola checked in with us during the trip via the App chat function and then again after our return to see how it all went.

Simply put, our expectations were exceeded with this trip and every element went off well. We are very thankful to Nicola for her knowledge and helping us to have probably the most memorable trip of our lives. Antarctica is a destination that not many will travel to, but you cannot compare the beauty of Antarctica with any other destination. This trip created lasting memories that we won't soon, if ever, replace.
